intense pain

I rolled my ankle a year ago while playing softball. Trying to beat the throw to first, I stretched for the base and my foot came down on the side of the bag, causing my whole foot to "roll" to the inside. I though I had broke my ankle..the pain was intense. I made a visit to a local orthopedic doctor the following day and after examining the x-rays, was told I had just a mear strain. He gave me a aircast and I wore it for about 4 weeks. After about 45 days, the pain went away and I was able to walk fairly normal once again.
Its been over a year since the incident. In recent days, the once injured foot has been giving me some serious pain and difficulty in movement. The pain comes when I push off the ball of my foot while walking. For a better explanation of the symptons, I cannot do toe raises on that foot. I cannot raise up on the ball of my foot, the pain radiates from the middle part of my upper foot, between the toes and the ankle. I would appreciate any ideas on what might be causing this ailment.

The tendon that helps the big toe function runs behid the back of the ankle. It is probably damaged or has scar tissue around it. You really need to see an orthopedist or podiatrist to be examined and properly diagnosed. You should not still be having problems with this injury. An MRI may be useful in determining what structure is damaged so you can be more accurately treated.
