pain, ball of foot

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jul 29, 2001 2:21 pm

I was increasing my mileage, training for a 10K. I was up to running 9 to 15 miles a week when I developed pain in the ball of my foot near my 4th metatarsal. I had no swelling, bruising, acute injury or pain with weight bearing, but I did have pain with the lift off portion of walking. The doctor said there was no fracture on x-ray. It worsens after I walk any length of time. What could this be?
Thanks.

You probably have sesamoiditis or a strained ligament which is similar to "turf toe." In either case, you may have to take a break from running. You should see a podiatrist so you can be properly diagnosed and treated. This will allow you to minimize your time away from running.
