Scheduled for a sesamoid removal have questions!

Post a new topicby coreycrawford on Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:44 am

I have seen many postings on many different sites referring to problems after surgery and possible use of orthotics I also know after many years of internet research that the only time you hear post event comments it is after something goes wrong. I would really like to hear from all sides but more from qualified people. I am starting to have compensatory pain in other parts of my foot that are now starting to hurt worse than the sesamoid I know also that I am beginning to walk funny and my back is beginning to hurt due to the od walk. Please help! This is supposed to happen in two weeks and I need to make an informed decision. Thanks!
1. With a completely broken sesamoid is an orthotic something that can be a perminate solution? I have been to three different doctors and all three say "no, you need surgery"

2. I have read quite a bit about the possible complications of the removal, are these the exceptions or the rule? bunyons and other painful things.

3. What is the true recovery time? two of my docs said one week and I would be able to return to work. From reading and talking to people I am beginning to learn that there may be more of a 8 -12 week recovery. Is this just for a total recovery, or for me to be able to return to work.
