sesamoid issues after bunionectomy

Post a new topicby mamasok on Wed Jan 14, 2009 12:14 am

To make a very long story short, here goes..I had a bunion removed via the austin procedure. A year and a half prior, I had the same bunion 'shaved'. At that same time the outer sesamoid was removed. Now that I have had the 'right' bunion procedure done, my remaining 'inside' sesamoid is bothering me. It feels like I am walking on a marble. Only without shoes. It is uncomfortable and painful. I had this surgery in October. Since then, I have still have been doctoring. I have been instructed to wear shoes at all times and recheck in Feb. My ?'s are what happens if I have the remaining sesamoid removed? My doc is 'dissappointed' in this new problem. He is unsure what he can do about it. He thought the area was "angry" and "hot" so that is why i'm wearing shoes all the time. I can tell it is not working. he also said something about if I have to have the other one removed, he may have to fuse the joint? What the heck? I am so confused! I almost feel like I should leave well enough alone! I have nightmares I will end up with a stump! Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...Alicia
