Sesamoid rebreak? My fifteen year old daughter broke her sesamiod in September. After 3 weeks in a cast, 3 weeks in a boot and walking for 3 weeks with no pain the doctor told her she could return to her sport, volleyball. It was a bad move. A recent MRI shows it is either still broken or rebroken. She is now in a cast and wheelchair for a while. My question is, did she do extra damage by going back to life to soon or is it a good sign she was getting better before and hopefully she will heal again. She is SOOOOOO sad and I keep looking for statistics on her chances of healing. Do most heal or most not?

Assuming that you know the answer to your question, as it was while back, can you please answer it for me? How was your daughter's recovery? is she back on her feet now and resuming her prebreaks activity level? I truly hope so, for her and for me!
Re: Sesamoid rebreak? It's been a very, very long difficult road but things are looking up. She went through a lot since that last post, more MRI's, Cat scan's, and 6 more weeks in a non-weight bearing cast I took her to 6 orthopedic foot specialists, including some professional athletes doctors. All the doctor's wanted to first go with a very conservative approach, which I agreed with since she is so young. After all conservative approaches didn't work and her mental state was getting worse we decided to have surgery. Some doctor's wanted to wait a little longer, some wanted to take part of the bone out but the doctor we decided to go with suggested we take it out and put in a graft made out of part of her foot. We liked this doctor and his partner. One was young and cutting edge and the other had 20 years experience. They made a good team. She had the surgery in February and is now walking with no pain. She was hoping to be back at sports soon but if looks like not for a few more months (if at all)
She is just happy to be walking!! The doctors are very happy with her healing so far. THis is a tough injury to have, who knew!! Getting back to your original question, after looking at the bone once it was taken out, the doctors agreed it would have never healed even if we had waited longer. It was the funniest thing to look at. It was about the size of a peanut m&m. What is your doctor's advice?
Sponsored LinksRe: Sesamoid rebreak?Hi. I've just joined this forum after months / a year + of sesamoid pain. I just had my cast removed & am trying to heal, but unfortunately it doesn't feel right. My other foot is now experiencing sesamiod pain as well - probablly from taking all the force while trying to heal the other injured one. I was glad to see that surgery has worked for your daughter! Would you pass on her Dr's name as a referral? Surgery may the the only option for me .....
Thank you!
