Sesamoiditis

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Jun 14, 2001 2:17 pm

I have been experiencing pain at the ball of my left foot for over 2 years now. Had x-rays and MRI which determined sesamoiditis/stress fracture of sesamoid. My podiatrist has taken every precaution while treating this injury -- had numerous cortisone shots, stopped activity, etc. with only temporary relief. Looks like the next step is immobilization then possible surgery. I really don't see how making my foot immobile after 6 months of very little activity is going to correct this problem. I am a young, active person and I just want the pain to subside so I can go back to exercising the way I used to. To me, it looks like surgery is the only option, but I have read that there are side effects and the recovery period is very long. If I don't get surgery, can anything else happen? I would really appreciate any advice because this is very painful and frustrating. Thanks.

At this point surgery is probably your only option. Although this may seem severe, long term pain like you are having is very difficult to treat successfully.
