sesmoid removal consequences?

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Nov 14, 2001 11:08 am

I had both sesmoid bones removed 20 years ago. I have developed bunions which will need treatment but the current problem is on the left foot. I am experiencing extremely sharp pains on the ball of my foot when I walk and apply full pressure to that part of the foot. I can cause the same pain if I apply pressure to that part of the foot as well. It happens mostly when I have on a pair of shoes that don't have any 'give' in that part. The pain feels so sharp that it feels like an injury but it stops as soon as it starts with no lingering aching. Any ideas?

The sesamoids are part of the big toe joint. By having them removed, the joint can still function well but not as good as if they were still intact. Therefore, the best thing you can do is to wear soft inserts and try not to wear shoes that cause this type of pain. Sorry I could not be of more help. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
