Showgirl with fractured sesamoid!Hi I am a showgirl in Las Vegas as well as a cocktail waitress. I fractured my lateral sesamoid two months ago. I have been in a walking cast (or boot) for 8 weeks now. At my 8 week check-up the doctor took another x-ray to see how the fracture had healed. He discovered that the fracture had not healed at all. My lateral sesamoid is still in two pieces, or a non-union as the podiatrist put it. I can walk on my foot flat and briefly in heels with minor pain. My problem is because I am a dancer I use the ball of my foot alot. I cannot put all my weight on it to turn or to go on releve, and jumping on it is out of the question. I am only 24 and in great physical shape. I am very active not only as a dancer but with other sports and working out. I am concerned that I will not be able to dance anymore. My doctor said I could have the surgery to remove the broken bone, but I am terrified at the thought. Are there any dancers out there that have gone through this?? Are there any doctors with success stories about operating or not operating on dancers or athletes? I am desperately seeking help and advice! Anything will help. Thank you!!!
