Upcoming Sesamoid surgery

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Nov 02, 2001 5:52 pm

I have a broken Sesamoid and I am going in soon to have it removed. I was wondering is it generally a painful recovery? Also will I be able to walk normally after recovery without the bone? I have a 1 year old to chase after so this is a big concern.

You normally can walk in a surgical shoe for 2-3 weeks and then progress to a sneaker. You should be able to walk normally after the surgery. High impact athletics is really the only time when you may feel some discomfort once the area completely heals. Therefore, your one year old will not be able to escape you. Recovery is not very painful relative to many other types of procedures that involve bones. There will be discomfort for tehr first couple of weeks while the tissues heal but it will gradually decrease as you increase your activity. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
