Squamous Cell Carcenoma, base of tongue

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu May 30, 2002 9:36 am

My husband was diagnosed with metastic squamous cell carcenoma in September,2001. He underwent 7 weeks of radiation therapy. The cancer was in lymph nodes on each side of his neck along with the primary at base of tongue. All tests since his treatment have shown that the tumor has regressed.
Yet he still complains of pain in his tongue and is still losing weight. His weight was 216 and now he is at 155. He did have a feeding tube, but it was removed in January. A neck dissection was not done. Since the cancer was in his lymph nodes what are we to expect? Is this type of cancer terminal? Our doctors are giving conflicting reports.
I am very frustrated and we tell them that he has no energy, headaches, tongue pain, back pain, but all the tests show nothing. Are we jus in a waith and see pattern?
Thank you for your help.
