cortisone injection - "hitting the nerve?"

Post a new topicby ihatetts on Sun May 25, 2008 8:33 pm

Hi everyone.

I have bilateral tarsal tunnel syndrome. I received my first set of cortisone injections 7 days ago.

The left ankle seems to be improving. But during the right ankle injection, I felt a shock and my whole foot jumped. Doc said he 'hit the nerve' and from what I read it's ok to do this and perhaps not ok.

Now when I tap on the needle hole injection I feel a sensation in the fourth toe - not really a Tinel's sign. Like I hit the funny bone and my fourth toe is at the end.

Is this normal? Is it going to go away? Doc said a 'nerve block' does the same thing - direct injection into nerve - but I'm not sure honestly and kind of worried.

Thanks for any info.

I have had 3 injections of cortisone in my right foot and 2 in my left. when I had the first injection, I thought I was going to go through the roof... the second 2 injections he put the cortisone around the tendon as I have tendonitis and it did not hurt as bad

to my understanding, it is normal to have the electrical shock/pain, as this is the nerve being pinched.. I go see my podiatrist tommorrow, I think I am looking at surgery.

are you able to feel your toes and the ball of your foot ?? Im not, very depressing as this was caused by my pregnancy

Hi. The toes feel fine except when I tap on the needle hole. Then and only then, I feel a funny bone sensation in the fourth toe. Point is, it didn't feel right going in, and I'm not sure if this sensation felt when tapping there is permanent or if it'll go away.

Any thoughts?

How long have you had your condition for? Did you feel cortisone made your situation progressively better?

Let me know how you get along after your shots.

My son is a football coach and totally against the shots and lectures me every time I mention them. At this time I am not considering surgery, have heard too many bad reports and do not want the pain to become worse than it is after surgery or to go through all of that and have it return. I live in a remote area and would have to travel 120 miles to the doctor provided there would be one there that has knowledge of TTS. I have had this for numerous years, not sure when it started but probably 10 years ago or a little longer.
