new here..not diagnosed yet but pretty sure..

Post a new topicby frustrated runner on Wed Apr 09, 2008 11:01 am

Hi all,

I have been diagnosed with achilles tendonitis achilles enthescopathy and now it looks like it could be tarsal tunnel I am a runner and it started late Nov last year after I finished a half marathon. I felt really tight after that but went back to running about a week later I had my first symptoms. Discomfort in my heel, shooting pains in my ankles and I noticed, oddly, that when I put my laptop on my lap my ankles and heels would burn and tingle.

I just wondered whether there were any other runners on here, and if they got back to running. I am so scared of not being able to run!

Also, what are the non surgical treatments that have helped? Has anyone used active release technique (art)?

Thanks so much,
April

The best way to really rule out tarsal tunnel syndrome is to get a nerve conduction study which if positive can show that the nerve that runs on the inside of the ankle is entraped and causes the signal to delay. Most people with tarsal tunnel syndrome have pain into the bottom of the foot. Since you are a runner, a custom orthotic is a great way to control the mechanics in the foot and can prevent symptoms of tarsal tunnel syndrome, achilles bursitis/tendonitis, and enthesiopathy. I'd recommend going to your nearest podiatrist for a workup. Good luck!
