I don't know much about acupuncture, but I remember considering it and deciding it wasn't worth pursuing. These are other things that I would try before surgery:

1. compression socks (I call them magic socks. They aren't magic for everyone, but I went from crawling around on the floor and avoiding liquids so I wouldn't have to walk to the bathroom, to living a relatively normal life except I don't play tennis or go for long walks, etc. I got them while trying to figure out a date for surgery - and after using them, never did get the surgery.

2. A.R.T. or Trigger Point Therapy. Some people say they are similar, other say they aren't. There aren't a lot of practitioners of either so I'd try whichever was closer. I'm pretty sure (but not positive) they have helped me a lot and given me more steps in a day.

3. B-vitamins help some people, and I've seen magnesium suggested by people I consider reliable sources - but again, it doesn't work for everyone.

Maybe you've already tried these. You didn't mention what you have tried. HOpe I'm not sending you down someplace that already proved a deadend for you.

Hi,

First I am sorry to hear that you're in pain.

I have spoken to several people who have tried acupuncture. Although many of them said they did have some relief but it didn't last.

I would like to add to Lara's list:

Vitamins: B6 or B12, Magnesium, MSM, Glucosamine, and Vitamin C

Shoes: Birkenstock, Arizonas are my favorite

Medication: Neurontin and Elavil, cortezone shots (ouch)

Exercise: Find some light stretches, Yoga has helped many.

Ice: Ice with frozen peas when forzen. About 5 minutes each foot

Massage: Daily massage of meta tarsal area, ankle and calve....if needed the thigh. DO NOT massage vigorously over the tarsal area.

Compression socks

Rest but keep yourself fit. You need to be in good physical shape to recover. Don't be in a hurry it takes time. I wish you the best.....I went from a wheel chair to walking again! I have given you all the things that worked for me.

best wishes marieaey
