tarsal tunnel syndrome

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Aug 13, 2001 9:19 am

I had an emg done recently and the test came back negative. Can you have a test for tarsal tunnel without needle testing the Abductor Hallucis or Abductor Digiti Quinti Pedis muscles? I have a large heel spur with numbness of the foot occuring after a couple of hours or less depending on activity. Besides inside of the heel, pain aches up the inside of my ankle, up my calf and when it is really bad, my upper leg into my pelvic area. I have had these symptoms over 2 years with conservative treatments and symptoms have become worse. Also, can anti-inflammatories taken through the skin, ultra sound etc.., be helpful. I am unable to take oral anti-inflammatories. Thank you for you kind attention to this post.

You can have tarsal tunnel syndrome even with a completely negative EMG. Therefore, you may still have tarsal tunnel syndrome. You may also have a condition like sciatica in your hip and lower back causing the pain in your leg. Ultrasound with anti-inflammatories can help tarsal tunnel syndrome if that is where the actual problem is occurring.
