TTS after a fracture?

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Apr 24, 2002 5:08 pm

I fractured my ankle the first week of March. It was diagnosed as a sprain at first and I walked on it for 2 weeks. I then was called back to the doctor when he received my x-ray report showing the minor fracture. I was put in a non-weight bearing cast. For the 5 weeks I was casted, 2 weeks in one cast, 3 in another, I would experience burning and tingling on the sole of my foot, and often cold toes. The cast was removed two days ago, I am still mainly non-weight bearing on crutches, but the burning, tingling, cold sensations continue.
Could this be TTS? Is this a common reaction to trauma? Does it often resolve itself without further treatment?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

It is probably not TTS. A cast can be very uncomfortable and even cause impingement of some ofthe nerves. These may be the reasons you are having the pain you experience. However, there are other conditions that can be triggered as a result of trauma. such as reflex sympathetic dystrophy and fibromyalgia. You can read more about these conditions at www.neurologychannel.com. Therefore, if the pain does not decrease, you should ask your doctor about a possible diagnosis for the pain.
